Weekend Results

There were some notable performances by Limestone County runners over the past week.

ABS Cross Country Invitational
First, on Thursday, Athens Bible School hosted their annual ABS Cross Country invitational race at the Sportsplex in Athens. This event had the largest participation since 2004. Lawrence County won both the Varsity Boys 5k and Varsity Girls 5k overall. In the 1A to 3A division, Hatton won the Varsity Boys 5k and Vina won the Varsity Girls 5k.

Grissom won both the junior boys 2 mile race and junior girls 2 mile race overall. Limestone County's Athens Bible School won both the junior boys 2 mile race and the junior girls 2 mile race in the 1A to 3A division.

In the Varsity Boys 5k 4A to 6A division, Athens High was 3rd, West Limestone was 5th, and East Limestone was 11th. In the Varsity Boys 5k 1A to 3A division, Elkmont was 6th and ABS was 8th. In the Varsity Girls 5k 4A to 6A division, West Limestone was 6th. In the Varsity Girls 5k 1A to 3A division, Elkmont was 5th.

Edgewater 5k
At the inaugural Edgewater 5k in Madison, Ben Greene of Athens won the masters title and took second place overall by running a 19:08. Other Limestone County finishers included Kim Shores of Elkmont in 26:25 and Heath Shores of Elkmont in 27:45. Overall results and Age Group results are available at the HTC website.

Monte Sano XTerra 15k/5k
The Xterra trail race series is gaining in popularity in the Southeast. There are three races in the Alabama series, Cheaha 10k, Monte Sano 15k, and the Oak Mountain 21k. For more information visit http://www.dirtyspokes.com/. The Monte Sano 15k course is a difficult, hilly, technical trail race.
