Monte Sano 10k and 5k

The 40th Annual Monte Sano 10k and 5k Road Races were Saturday, September 3, 2011. This is an annual Saturday before Labor Day tradition in Huntsville. The races start with a 10k at 8:00 AM and a 5k at 9:30. The 10k course is a double loop of the 5k course. It's a rolling and challenging course. The 10k was the RRCA 10k State Championship race for Alabama this year.

The overall winner was Josh Whitehead of Madison in 33:12. The female winner was Candace Jacobs of Huntsville in 38:45. The masters winner was Tim Horvath of Huntsville in 38:11. The female masters winner was Limestone County's own Whitney Hollingsworth of Elkmont in 46:26. Congratulations to these state champions! Jimmie Dukes 7@7 7k

The first annual Jimmie Dukes 7k run was Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Point Mallard Park in Decatur. 7k is a very unusual distance, 4.36 miles. The course was flat and much of the course was run on the trail that goes along the river. This race had a beat the heat 7 AM start and had a good turnout for an inaugural event.

The overall winner was Limestone County runner Tyrone Harris of Athens in 25:31. It's reported that he hopped out of his car just a couple of minutes before race start time and still dominated the field. The masters winner and second overall was Tim Vinson of Madison in 28:04. The female winner was ultra runner extraordinaire Kathy Youngren of Huntsville in 30:13. The female masters winner was Tina Davis of Town Creek in 34:51.
