Not only was 90-year-old (yes, ninety) Claudis Hawkins of Rainbow City the only runner in his Males 80-99 age group for the second-annual HMC 5K in Boaz on Saturday, but he also finished in 1:18:00 to claim the Alabama 5K record (which, by the way, was his own time of 1:27:45 from an Anniston race last August). Mr. Hawkins also holds the state 5K records for 87- 88- and 89-year-olds and the 10K record for 87-year-olds (2:22:45).
Mike Greene, 45, of Harvest was the overall winner in Boaz on Saturday with a finish time of 19:38 while April Hickok, 22, of Cookeville, TN, took the overal female title in 21:40.
Elkmont's Bud Bowen, 58, was the only Limestone County finisher in the race, taking an age-group win in 21:45.
